This Thanksgiving will usher in the highest volume of travelers for the week of November 23 in the past five years, according to figures from American Automobile associated.
The 2017 holiday weekend will see more than 972,000 travelers, up 3.3 percent from previous year and the highest travel volume since 2007. They are expected to include 5pm to 6pm on Tuesday in Chicago, where trips can take three times as long as during non-rush hour, and 4pm to 4:45pm in San Francisco.
This is despite the spike in gas prices, AAA says Colorado drivers should expect to pay $2.54 per gallon, a 47 cent increase over previous year.
According to AAA, more than 844,000 Arizonans are planning a Thanksgiving road trip, an increase of 3.3 percent over a year ago.

"Compared to the first half of November a year ago, gas prices this November are on average 39-cents more expensive", said Jeanette Casselano, AAA spokesperson.
Since so many drivers will be on the roads, AAA expects to aid more than 5,000 stranded Colorado motorists over the holiday. The nation's top 10 states with the largest weekly changes: Florida (+13 cents), IN (-13 cents), Alaska (+12 cents), OH (-10 cents), Georgia (+7 cents), OR (+7 cents), North Carolina (+6 cents), IL (-6 cents), Texas (+6 cents) and SC (+6 cents).
