Both Dish and CBS have reached a multi-year deal after a blackout on CBS programming to two million subscribers occurred for nearly three days in a row. Dish Network sports aficionados can now catch Friday's Missouri-Arkansas college football game, Saturday's highly anticipated Iron Bowl game between No. 1 Alabama and No. 6 Auburn and Sunday's slate of NFL contests.
Besides Chicago, other affected markets were NY (where CBS owns WCBS and WLNY), Los Angeles (KCBS and KCAL), Philadelphia (KYW and WPSG), Dallas (KTVT and KTXA), San Francisco (KPIX and KBCW), Atlanta (WUPA), Boston (WBZ and WSBK), Seattle (KSTW), Tampa (WTOG), Detroit (WWJ and WKBD), Minneapolis (WCCO), Miami (WFOR and WBFS), Denver (KCNC), Sacramento (KOVR and KMAX), Pittsburgh (KDKA and WPCW) and Baltimore (WJZ). Due to Dish Network and CBS being unable to reach a carriage agreement, CBS is no longer available to millions of Dish subscribers across America. Dish believes CBS is trying to get its customers to pay a "CBS tax". Dish's statement also pointed out that viewership data "reveals that on CBS Sports Network, Pop and Smithsonian Channel, average viewership is down more than 10 percent in the past three years".
The deal finally came after almost three days of blacked-out CBS programming on Dish, which included those Thanksgiving Day NFL games. CBS offers All Access, its own web-based streaming service starting at $5.99 a month. Luckily, Dish and CBS reached a multi-year agreement 12 hours after the blackout. You also can watch CBS for free by using a digital antenna.
