Fortinet, a global leader in high-performance cybersecurity solutions, announced it has extended its virtualized Security Fabric applications to Amazon Web Services (AWS) customers with an encompassing set of solutions that can be managed through a centralized console. "Customers of VMware Cloud on AWS will be able to migrate application portfolios to the cloud even more rapidly with Hybrid Cloud Extension and AWS Direct Connect, while maintaining the optimal levels of performance, scale, and availability required for mission-critical apps". "While Amazon has never discussed any plans for a spin or any HQ2 plans relative to AWS, it is possible that the location of the new headquarters could provide some insight into the way management is thinking about the positioning of AWS", he said.
There's also a broader ecosystem of partners offering support for VMware Cloud on AWS, including AWS Direct Connect partners, as well as VM-level external storage partners like NetApp and data protection partners.
The programme includes reference architectures with best practices for building SaaS solutions on AWS, AWS Quick Starts which automate deployments for key workloads on AWS, and SaaS on AWS Training that delivers prescriptive guidance on building a SaaS business on AWS. That's where the AWS Marketplace came in.
If cloud migration is the customer's main cloud initiative, leveraging third-party tools within the AWS Marketplace to help improve security and automation just makes sense, Amazon's Usmani said. The interesting thing to note here is that Amazon has named the service after Sumerian, the language of Sumer people in Mesopotamia. "The solution is helping enterprises accelerate cloud adoption and become more agile".
Participating software companies in the preview are AppDynamics, Barracuda, CA Technologies, Cisco, Checkpoint, Chef, F5, NetApp, Palo Alto Networks, Pitney Bowes, Snowflake, and Trend Micro.
