Yesterday, Pakistan issued visas to the convicted Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav's wife and mother to facilitate their meeting with the death-row inmate in Pakistan - most likely on December 25. In this regard, Pakistan has chose to release two hundred and ninety-one Indian fishermen in two phases on humanitarian grounds, with the first phase on 29th of this month and the other on the 8th of next month, he remarked.
India had earlier refused to send wife of Kulbhushan Jadhav, alone to visit the Indian navy officer in Pakistan, requesting Islamabad to grant travel permit to his mother also. A Pakistani military court, which tried Jadhav on espionage and terror charges in Pakistan, sentenced him to death in April this year. The ICJ halted his execution on India's appeal pending the final verdict by it. Pakistan has repeatedly denied India consular access toJadhav on the ground that it was not applicable in cases related to spies.
The ICJ has asked Pakistan to submit its response or memorial by December 13 before the court could start further proceedings in the case. India rejects Pakistan's claim that Jadhav was arrested on March 3, 2016, from Balochistan's Mashkhel area.
