Two people were injured in a brief early-morning fire near the top of Trump Tower in midtown Manhattan as the city's workday rush began, the New York Fire Department said today.

More than 126 firefighters responded to the scene.

Images showed dark plumes of smoke billowing from the building's roof just after 7 a.m.

Trump Tower retains a large security presence and is often protected during large public events in Manhattan. It was not immediately known if those injured were civilians or firefighters. Sakowich said all the smoke and steam was a result of the cold weather.

Eric Trump stated on Twitter that the fire was caused by an electrical issue in a cooling tower, and praised the Fire Department's response.
