Some members of the Sutherland Springs community welcomed Ryland home as he passed through town on the fire truck.
Pictures show him grinning widely as a slew of firefighters and law enforcement officers greeted him at University Hospital, where he has spent the last two months being treated for five bullet wounds.

Ryland was rushed to the hospital and soon the young boy's mother reached out to Duncan, the firefighter said.

Duncan said that as of this week, Ryland was walking again, with assistance. "Unfortunately, his wife and two girls were actually gone". "People at the hospital were nice and everything, but he turned 6 years old and had Christmas in there, and he just wanted to get out and get back to being kid", Earl McMahan, Ward's great-uncle, told UPI. "He deserves the outpouring of love that will be be shown to him", Baker said.
Some along the route shed tears of joy and/or cheered as they saw Ward going by in the fire truck. Ward isn't just any 6-year-old, and it wasn't just any trip home.
