In April a year ago the 38 members of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) voted to approve plans for a new competition to run alongside the T20 Blast, which is contested by the 18 first-class counties. With Trent Bridge becoming the home of the 50-over final and Edgbaston the home of T20 finals day, there is a move to a pleasing consistency and symmetry about the list.

"Commercially, getting a franchise was absolutely key for us from this announcement, so we're focusing on the positive".
The governing body revealed the news on Wednesday, having approved the key venues for all the major domestic and global matches over a five-year period from 2020, subject to contract.
