Ever since 1887, therefore, Punxsutawney Phil (not the same one, mind you) gives his prediction each second day of February. What does it mean? If there is no shadow, then an early spring is on the horizon.

You can livestream the Groundhog Day celebration on Visit Pennsylvania's website at 5 a.m. on February 2.

"Unfortunately, there have been years where the president has misinterpreted what Phil said", former handler Ron Ploucha told pennlive.com "Because Phil's never wrong, Phil's prediction is 100 percent correct, and we blame the variants on the president's interpretation of Phil's prediction".

For the 131st year, Punxsutawney Phil made his famous prognostication and, once again, science disagrees. Only 121 of his predictions were recorded.

The Groundhog Day 2018 will commence at 7:25 a.m. EST, Friday.

Out on Staten Island, Chuck the groundhog predicted an early spring.

Emotional support animals people have tried to bring on planes

Risking arrest and prison, Iranian women cast off their hijabs in protest
Around 300 people remain imprisoned as sporadic protests continue across the country, according to Iran's interior ministry. One woman who was said to have been arrested and was identified as Narguess Hosseini, stood at the same spot as Movahedi.

But another celebrated groundhog, Chuck in the New York City borough of Staten Island, did not see his shadow on Friday and instead predicted an early spring.

However, Groundhog Day became a tradition over 130 years ago - dating back to 1880s.

The festivities date back to a German legend that says if a furry rodent casts a shadow on February 2, winter will continue. When German immigrants moved to Pennsylvania, they brought the tradition with them, replacing a groundhog for the hedgehog.

If you believe the four-legged forecaster, it looks like winter will be sticking around for another six weeks because Phil saw his shadow.

Sussex County is home, at Space Farms, to weather-predicting groundhog Stonewall Jackson V who comes from a long line of oracular groundhogs- all named Stonewall Jackson.

But still, even in his most successful decades, it's essentially a coin flip, whereas most weather forecasts are accurate 80 percent of the time or more. On average, Phil has gotten it right 40% of the time over the past 10 years. That's the question that will be on everyone's minds as they awake early Friday, which also happens to be Groundhog Day.
