But reviving the Skywalker role in two recent iterations of Disney's Star Wars films and an active presence on Twitter has helped bring Hamill back into the spotlight. Hamill's longtime friends, director George Lucas and Harrison Ford, were on hand to induct the actor in front of the massive crowd.
The 66-year-old entertainer couldn't contain his excitement over getting his own Walk of Fame star, and opened up to ET about what the moment meant to him. During the ceremony, Hamill spoke about living out his childhood dreams as an actor and the honor that comes with receiving a star. Ford took time to honor the third member of their trio, the late Carrie Fisher, who famously played Princess Leia.
Ford went next, saying that more people showed up for Mark than they did for his star ceremony in 2003, "a lot more".
"Words truly fail me", he said.
"Mark Hamill is a character that can't be written", Lucas said of the animated actor while Hamill proceeded to make faces at the audience. "I haven't been this speechless since "The Force Awakens"," Hamill said.
