Investigators have not yet released complete details, but McArthur is believed to have met his alleged victims in the Gay Village and on gay dating apps for older and large men with names such as "SilverDaddies" and "Bear411".
Homicide detectives have taken the unusual step of releasing a photo of an unidentified deceased man who investigators believe is a victim of accused serial killer Bruce McArthur.
Idsinga declined to say how police obtained the picture of the dead man.
Idsinga noted that police are releasing the picture "with great hesitation", as it is a key piece of evidence in the case.
Police have charged McArthur with six counts of first degree murder related to disappearances of men from Toronto's gay village and elsewhere. The other four sets of remains are still unidentified, officials said.
He added that they won't be releasing a cause of death until the investigation is concluded.
"I can't really get into specifics about why we didn't realize there were seven remains there, but we had the planters several weeks ago", Idsinga said.
The earliest murder charge laid against McArthur dates back to 2010, sparking questions as to how his alleged actions escaped notice for years.

McArthur is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the deaths, and the presumed deaths of Andrew Kinsman, 49, Soroush Mahmudi, 50, Skandaraj Navaratnam, 40, Selim Esen, 44, Majeed Kayhan, 58, and Dean Lisowick, either 43 or 44.
The victims now known to police are Andrew Kinsman, 49, who had a long-term sexual relationship with McArthur, 40-year-old Skandaraj Navaratnam who went missing in 2010 and Soroush Mahmudi, 50, whose disappearance was reported nearly three years ago.
Idsinga said they've now found the dismembered remains of at least seven individuals this year in large planters at a home where McArthur did landscaping work and stored objects. "This is through teamwork because we need to utilise many different scientific disciplines - pathology, antrophology, dentistry, fingerprints, all of these different modalities are integrated together to understand what's happened".
The detective was joined at the news conference by Dr. Michael Pollanen, the chief forensic pathologist for the province, to explain the scope of the investigation. "It is drawing on the talents and expertise of essentially everyone in the organization".
Another week and more remains found.
All of the victims were dismembered and in various stages of decomposition.
But top of mind for his team is closure for the families of missing persons.
McArthur was expected to appear in court again March 14.
