Officials from the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, the Pentagon directorate overseeing global arms deals with the US, notified Congress Thursday on the proposed sale of the FGM-148 Javelin anti-tank missile. "The Javelin system will help Ukraine build its long-term defense capacity to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity in order to meet its national defense requirements". Lawmakers from both parties have long pushed the government to provide the weapons.
DSCA notified Congress of the possible sale on Thursday.
If approved by Congress, the deal would involve the sale of 210 missiles and 37 command units, Defense News reported, citing Pentagon sources.
