Kessler's film Montauk, which screened at the 2012 Hamptons Film Festival, told the story of a young boy who mysteriously goes missing in the Long Island community. He claims he met the Duffer Brothers in 2014 at a Tribeca Film Festival party, where the trio allegedly discussed the "script, ideas, story and film".
"Mr. Kessler's claim is completely meritless", the Duffers" legal representation said. His attorney, Michael Kernan, claims that Kessler's pitch to the Duffers in 2014 should be counted as an "in-fact" contract and follows along with "industry norms" in Hollywood. "He had no connection to the creation or development of Stranger Things", the statement read. Moreover, they should all the materials that they have, and which are based on his original concepts.
