The Capitals were leading the series 3-0 and the Flyers were on the brink of elimination. In Game 5 Brassard had a game-high eight shots on goal and a solid four hits.
With that in mind, let's look back at this fierce rivalry and remember some of its best games.
Nashville has lost three of the last four games when it was a road favorite and has given up the first goal in each game of this series. The NBA superstar is no longer concerned with winning 70-plus games.
The Flyers almost took a 2-0 lead a little over a minute into the second period. The Flyers are fighting for all they're worth, and the gravity of this game is apparent after two periods tied 2-2.
The Philadelphia Flyers haven't been able to play with any consistency for a while now and a home team hasn't been able to win a game since the first meeting this series. "We need to do a better job of bringing the momentum back our way". The Penguin goalie stopped the initial blast but the rebound hopped out a couple feet and Valtteri Filppula jammed it into the net with 1:45 left in the period. Meanwhile, Washington was applying the pressure all night to the Philadelphia defense and Neuvirth. Of the team's 86 games this season, 48 have gone over the total, while 34 have gone under and just four have pushed. Matt Murray made 21 saves but had no chance on Couturier's victor as the puck found its way through a sea of players and into the net. Philadelphia had their chances, but their series long struggles on offense continued and they fell to the Capitals 1-0, losing the series 4-2.
The story of the game was Philadelphia goalie Michal Neuvirth, who stood strong despite being peppered by shot after shot. They took the lead on a weak goal.
There's a chance the Flyers could have Sean Couturier in the lineup. "Get bumped a little bit, and hopefully it'll keep going well today and I can play tomorrow".
Rising tensions over Syria risk direct Iranian-Israeli confrontation
Satellite images released Tuesday by Israeli Defense Forces show the scope of the military relationship between Iran and Syria. Occupation army spokesman said although Tel Aviv may send some representatives, there will be no planes.
Students plan to join USA gun violence walkout
Murdock said her age group has no problem staying focused, refusing to become numb to gun violence. "Police were everywhere. It's similar to the "March For Our Lives " walkout which happened at schools around the nation last month.
SC air quality worsens, new report says
The DoE in its annual report for 2016-17 highlighted some of the government's initiatives to control air pollution. New Orleans saw slightly worse levels of year-round particle pollution than Baton Rouge .
The Flyers couldn't afford to fall behind early on the road. A shorty from Filppula tied the game, and the third period was a back-and-forth affair until Couturier's long-range wrister redirected off Brian Dumoulin and past Murray to put the Flyers ahead with 1:15 to go.
In addition to the Penguins hosting the Flyers, the New Jersey Devils are hosting the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 4 of that first-round series, and the Devils are trying to square the series. But his success was short-lived and in Game 3 he gave up five more goals in a 5-1 loss in Philadelphia. The Devils are 8-4 in their last 12 games. Elliott was chased out of the game again after allowing three goals in two periods and in entered Neuvirth.
Another common thread: In each of the Flyers' victories, Sean Couturier - who did a pretty good Kirk Gibson impersonation in Friday's 4-2 win - has scored the game-winner.
It's do-or-die time for three different teams on Friday night in the Stanley Cup playoffs. Scoring in the loss was Bryan Rust, which was his 2nd of the series and 15th of the year and Jake Guentzel, which was his 2nd of the series and 24th of the year.
Both teams battled hard in the third with Pittsburgh continuing to attack Neuvirth, putting scoring chances on the net. Heading into the third period, neither team could quite pull away, as the Flyers fought for their season and the Penguins tried to put them away. Neuvirth finished the game stopping 30 of 32 shots in his first full game since March 28th. The Penguins may have dominated their division rivals in Philly during Game 3 and 4 earlier in the week, but if the Flyers manage to play like they did on Friday, this series could very well end up going to Game 7.
Flyers coach Dave Hakstol pushed the right button in net.
There were at least 1,000 empty seats for Game 4 at the Wells Fargo Center - a Flyers spokesman said all the tickets were sold - and those that were there had lots of energy and gave lots of support in the first 10 minutes.
