The sheriff's office says the victim suffered bruises and a ruptured eardrum and had to be taken to the hospital.
Sources familiar with the investigation told this news organization that the reported victim and Foster were arguing and that he threw her belongings onto a front walkway and balcony.
Foster has also been charged with felony assault weapon possession and a misdemeanor of possessing a large capacity weapon magazine. Each is a felony. He faces up to 11 years in prison if convicted on all charges.
Foster is due for arraignment on Thursday at the Hall of Justice in San Jose, California. "Our office handles between 4,000 and 5,000 domestic violence cases each year. We hope this case illuminates the tragic regularity of the rest".
Even if he is not found guilty of his domestic violence charge, Foster is still subject to possible discipline from the National Football League, which could include a lengthy suspension for the upcoming season. He was also cited for having an assault rifle and high-capacity magazine, both of which are illegal in the state. "We will continue to follow this serious matter", the statement continues.
