Oklahoma teachers carried their walkout over school funding and higher pay into a ninth day on Tuesday as the Republican party governor signed school revenue bills that fell short of their demands.
Officials said Hoffman took a group of students, including the victim, to the Capitol to participate in the teacher walkout. They are asking the Oklahoma Legislature to provide $50 million more in funding and to repeal a capital gains tax exemption. A West Virginia strike last month ended with a pay raise for teachers. Arizona and Kentucky teachers have voiced their frustrations regarding teachers' salary and education underfunding.
Emboldened by support from across the country, Oklahoma teachers swarmed the state Capitol for a second week, urging lawmakers to increase funding for education in the state. The work-stoppages in Oklahoma and Kentucky were the second phase of rebellion by educators this year, after West Virginia teachers ended a nine-day strike almost a month ago.
Teachers want a $10,000 raise over three years.

Still, teachers are hopeful their efforts will create change.
The Oklahoma strike comes amid a wave of action by teachers in states where budgets have been slashed, as measured by per-student spending, over the past decade.
