A late push and some solid matinee performances later, and that top spot is not out of reach by any means. It would be second to only Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which had an opening weekend of $247.9 million and went on to finish with $936.6 million in the domestic market.
Infinity War also set a new global opening record with $630 million United States, beating the one previously held by The Fate of the Furious at $541.9 million. "'Infinity War' was the culmination of 10 years of developing the universe and characters that people care about". The film, which cost $300 million to make, collected over $270 million worldwide. The film will also take the record for the largest April opening weekend ever by the end of day. This number could fluctuate when an official tally comes in on Monday. The result earned positive reviews (84 percent fresh on Rotten Tomatoes) and an A CinemaScore from audiences.
However, taking inflation into account would mean the Star Wars film still holds the USA record, with about $260m (£188.5m) in today's dollars.
