Burkina Faso became the second African nation to break diplomatic ties with Taiwan in a month, leaving the island with only 18 allies around the world - many of which are poor nations in Central America and the Pacific. China's official Xinhua news agency ran a brief dispatch reporting the news from Burkina Faso, but without giving Beijing's reaction.
China's foreign ministry said Beijing appreciates Burkina Faso's move to sever ties with Taiwan.
Whether it's dispatching fighter jets to circle Taiwan, luring away our diplomatic allies, forcing global corporations to change the name they use to refer to Taiwan, preventing Taiwan from participating in worldwide organizations including the World Health Organization, and even meddling in a private children's art activity in another country, China's suppression subjects Taiwan to blatant political interference.
She added: "China toys with dollar diplomacy and promises huge sums of money to entice many countries to build relations".
China's hostility to Taiwan has grown since President Tsai Ing-wen's election in 2016, as Beijing fears she wishes to push for the island's formal independence, a red line for China. Tsai's ruling Democratic Progressive Party says it wants stable relations with China, but hasn't followed Tsai's predecessor, Ma Ying-jeou, in endorsing the "one China" principle.
"It won't work even if Taiwan accepts the consensus, as China won't accept a free interpretation of 'one China, '" Chen argued at a regular news briefing while calling for unity among Taiwan's people.

Burkina Faso's decision came as yet another blow to Taiwan, which had lost another diplomatic ally, the Dominican Republic, to Beijing on April 30.
Japanese retailer Muji was fined after being found to be using packaging that listed Taiwan as a country while United States retailer Gap Inc issued an apology last week for selling a T-shirt which it said had an incorrect map of China. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told reporters in January that he hoped "all African countries can appear in the family portrait of China-Africa cooperation, without anyone missing".
Tsai has lashed out at China's "crude behaviours" since Burkina Faso broke ties.
British Airways, Lufthansa and Air Canada are among 20 carriers that now list self-ruled Taiwan as a territory of China, according to the Associated Press.
Burkina Faso was the fourth country to cut ties with Taipei since Tsai took office two years ago.
