In a testament to the sophistication of Tesla's technology and the rapidly changing nature of auto fix, Tesla fixed those flaws with an over-the-air update that improved the Model 3's "braking distance by nearly 20 feet", according to the publication.
In its initial Tesla Model 3 review, CR pointed out several flaws with the vehicles, notably long stopping distances in its emergency braking test and difficult-to-use controls. However, Consumer Reports found it took "significantly longer" not only than that quoted distance, but than any other contemporary vehicle.
The magazine initially declined to recommend the Model 3 after measuring an inconsistent braking distance, requiring up to 152 feet to stop from 60 miles per hour - seven feet longer than a full-size F-150 pickup and 25 feet longer than Tesla's own Model X.
As part of the over-the-air software that fixed the braking issue, Tesla also addressed some of Consumer Reports' complaints about the Model 3's controls on the center screen.
Tesla's Model 3 has earned a recommendation from Consumer Reports.
While the Model 3 is now recommended, the magazine still had issues with the vehicle's ride, wind noise and uncomfortable rear seat.

"Braking & UI upgrades apply to all Model 3s".
Despite the thumb's up from Consumer Reports, Tesla remains under scrutiny for a number of accidents involving its vehicles' "Autopilot" system. CR's results seem to indicate that the update worked, though the publication noted that it doesn't quite live up to Musk's promise because, "the braking performance is not class-leading".
A Tesla (TSLA) spokesperson told the magazine the software was updated to improve the brakes' performance with different drivers and in varying environmental conditions. Additionally, the company has been changing some of the vehicle's controls so that users don't have to always go through the touchscreen while driving.
